Material

The model is wearing an Eri Peace silk scarf.

This piece is for those who believe in the beauty of handmade and the power of cloth to tell stories. In this age of fast fashion, watching the slow process of making fabric by hand is almost meditative. There is an entire army of rural artisans behind creating this work of art, which is the consequence of hundreds of hours of intensive craftsmanship. Each is one of a kind, ethical and produced in a small batch; truly a fabric with a soul!

TEXTILE STORY
This was a take off the 'Double Espresso' that we had created in tones of Coffee, and the tawny hysteria had not worn off yet! It almost always happens, when you start working on a piece of art, there are all these after thoughts and second guesses. That’s when you want to give it another shot using the same language. So I decided to change the canvas to a softer more fluid, Eri silk, but stick to the same colour palette. Even before I could say anything, my Colour Master laid out all the concoctions - Cinnamon, Chocolate, Mocha not to forget, Sage on the table. Well, I guess that’s the beauty of sharing one's journey with someone for more than a decade! This time around I wanted to use a pattern, and nothing more inspiring than nature! So, we offset the solids with the 'Alag patta' (separate leaves) block. The model made it her own by wrapping it like a hijab, reminding me of the famous photographic portrait of 'The Afghan girl' by Steve Mccurry. Atleast, I got to enjoy this one with my dose of 'Filter Kapee’ (Coffee in Tamil)!
